Finally...

After almost three years of blogging about places I love and meals I've had, Saveur, one of the best food magazines in the U.S. (like Gourmet and Bon Appetit) has included my blog in their list called Sites We Love for my entry on Las Vegas' Orchid's Garden and the fantastic dim sum meal I had there. Have a look and see why I'm so thrilled!

Blogspot or WordPress

I've been blogging on Blogspot for over two years now and I'm thinking of switching over to WordPress.  Here's what my blog looks like over there. It's going to take awhile before I do the final transfer since I'm still learning how to use WordPress and checking to see if it can do everything and more that Blogspot does so for now, enjoy both online versions and let's see how this goes.

Pleasant surprises

Fortunately, it's been a week of pleasant surprises - what with my grandmother's hip operation going well, our spur-of-the-moment day trip to Cadiz yesterday (more on that later) and now two features in other websites.

In the Culinary School Guide , I'm listed along with ninety-nine others in Top 100 Blogs for Foodies . The website lists everything you need to know about culinary schools. In their October 27 post, they list foodie-related blogs in different categories (e.g. recipes, regional. restaurants and chefs, gadgets and tools, everyday and beginner etc.) and mine is #64 in the Travel and Exotic section along with Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations.

The second mention is in The Back Burner, the companion blog to recipe website Key Ingredient. Here, my roast duck noodle soup recipe from a previous post was featured yesterday. Check both these websites out soon.

Marbella Food Websites and Specialty Shops

I read about these two Marbella-based food websites a few months back but haven't had the chance to try them yet. I'm curious to see how they work and have placed an initial order for an organic fruit and vegetable basket from The Organic Food Ferry to be delivered this week. Let's see what I'll be inspired to make from what my basket contains.

The Organic Food Ferry delivers fresh, organic produce and offers a wide selection of locally-sourced fruits and vegetables along with specialist organic ingredients and products. (Contact Mike at +34 607 667 136 or +34 650 883 142 or email at: mikeslaughter@mac.com )

ProperNosh.com delivers frozen ready-to-eat meals made with fresh ingredients from their kitchen in Benahavis from pumpkin coconut soup to Thai green chicken curry as well a selection of kid's meals, side dishes and cakes and desserts. (Contact Jen or Mark at +34 610 35 66 00 or email at: info@propernosh.com )

Two other places that I've been to located on Marbella's Golden Mile are great for last-minute healthy meals:

Love to Eat - a gourmet food shop that sells ingredients plus a selection of ready-made meals (salads, soups, main courses and sides) that is conveniently located across the street from the Marbella Club.

Terra Sana Deli - the new takeaway counter and shop that is right beside the restaurant where wraps and salads are available.

Last but not least is this website worth mentioning British Corner Shop that delivers British products (not just food but all other supermarket items as well) worldwide to your doorstep. I placed an order a few months back for special cereals and some other pantry items I couldn't find here in Marbella and was pleasantly surprised at the courteous service and efficiency. My box of goodies arrived intact and complete.

Blurb.com

My sister just told me about a fantastic website where anyone can make a book. Blurb.com would be great for creating one's own personal cookbook or a travel book or even a memory and photo book. I 'm looking forward to making a guidebook of my personal favorites (recipes, food, restaurants, hotels) from all over the world. All one needs to do is download the blurb booksmart bookmaking software, upload photos, artwork and text and then decide on a layout for the book and before you know it, your own book is published. There are sample books on the website to see how what one can do. Check it out!

Blog News

I just installed a nice little tool on this site called Snap Shots that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site. There are also interactive excerpts of Wikipedia articles, MySpace profiles, IMDb profiles and Amazon products, display inline videos, RSS, MP3s, photos, stock charts and more.

Sometimes Snap Shots bring you the information you need, without your having to leave the site, while other times it lets you "look ahead," before deciding if you want to follow a link or not.

Should you decide this is not for you, just click the Options icon in the upper right corner of the Snap Shot and opt-out.
