COME I KALLA

Lunch today with all the children was at a Spanish restaurant in Guadalmina Commercial Centre specializing in paella. Come i Kalla is a neighborhood restaurant in the Guadalmina community that is filled with locals at both lunch and dinner. I've passed here numerous times after having a coffee and a croissant at the adjacent cafe, D'Alicia.

There were nine of us at the table including the five children. Four of them had assorted spaghetti dishes (Bolognese, Carbonara and an aglio y olio con pepperoncino with shrimps) while one had the thinly-sliced meat cooked on a hot stone and served with pepper sauce on the side.

We started with thinly-sliced and deep-fried crispy aubergine with a salmorejo dip (gazpacho mixed with bacon and hard-boiled egg) which were excellent - I think I could have eaten the whole plate. Then, we all had the seafood paella which came with mussels, clams, shrimps, langoustines and pieces of fish and squid. The rice was cooked well although a bit bland and needed a sprinkling of sea salt and some lemon juice to heighten the flavor. Many of the other tables had ordered Arroz negro (seafood paella made with squid ink) - which is what I'll try next time. We finished off with ice cream for the kids and a homemade peach, kiwi and strawberry tart then back home for a siesta before the concert this evening.

Hi Cooking Ninja,
The "carne a la piedra" (meat cooked on a stone) was yummy. The paella was good but I've had better.

We´ve had dinner there last week.We were four. Delicious Paella and BBQ Steaks. They gave us bottle of red wine(Rioja!) for free. One of the best romantic places I´ve ever seen!

I'm glad to hear you had a nice meal. I haven't been to this restaurant in a long time since they closed for a bit then reopened recently and changed their menu. Good to know that they're still doing well. Thanks for checking in!
