Drinks and snacks were already in the living room when we arrived. We did a tour of the new house then sat down to dinner soon after at 9:00 p.m. Their two teenage children helped out by passing the serving plates around the table.
There were two salads - one of arugula with candied pecans and sliced pears and another of hearts of palm, corn and cherry tomatoes. The main course was roasted tenderloin with a Dijon mustard gravy served with roasted potatoes and complemented by an Angelica Zapata 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon. After second helpings of the main course, dessert was brought out - a delectable chocolate ice-cream meringue cake, of which we also had second helpings.
Coffee and tea were served in the living room along with petits fours and chocolate truffles from El Viejo Oso while their youngest child entertained us with her antics. We headed home soon after midnight after an enjoyable evening spent en famille.
